Prior to this change, ffmpeg couldn't be built for an
environment.noXlibs system, because it would fail in:
ffmpeg → SDL2 → libdecor
ffmpeg certainly does not need support for SDL2 windowing on a noXlibs
system.
This fix is important because the minidlna NixOS test, which uses the
minimal profile (and therefore environment.noXlibs) and ffmpeg, can't
currently build.
The primary difference between the standard and minimal variants of
this package is that all the X libraries are removed from the minimal
variant.
I had to switch the order of the definitions in all-packages.nix to
avoid an infinite recursion after the overlay was applied.
the conversion procedure is simple:
- find all things that look like options, ie calls to either `mkOption`
or `lib.mkOption` that take an attrset. remember the attrset as the
option
- for all options, find a `description` attribute who's value is not a
call to `mdDoc` or `lib.mdDoc`
- textually convert the entire value of the attribute to MD with a few
simple regexes (the set from mdize-module.sh)
- if the change produced a change in the manual output, discard
- if the change kept the manual unchanged, add some text to the
description to make sure we've actually found an option. if the
manual changes this time, keep the converted description
this procedure converts 80% of nixos options to markdown. around 2000
options remain to be inspected, but most of those fail the "does not
change the manual output check": currently the MD conversion process
does not faithfully convert docbook tags like <code> and <package>, so
any option using such tags will not be converted at all.
In some tests, e.g. -f nixos/release.nix tests.simple.x86_64-linux
we use noXlibs and qemu.ga. Now that output is tiny but to get it
a full qemu build is done, and some dependencies like gtk3 won't build
with noXlibs due to their dependencies being too stripped down.
Therefore let's reduce qemu features in noXlibs case.
The `sdlSupport = false;` part probably wasn't needed,
but I added it for consistency.
gobject-introspection has nothing to do with graphical systems or GNOME, it is needed for language bindings like Python.

The usage of nixpkgs.config.packageOverrides is deprecated and we do
have overlays since quite a while.

Currently broken on NixOS due to hardcoded modprobe binary path (see
bug #30756 from Oct 2017), no activity on a proposed fix for months.
As the protocol is terribly broken anyways, let's better remove it
completely, and not talk about anymore ;-)

Details:
* The option `fonts.enableFontConfig` has (finally) been renamed
`fonts.fontconfig.enable`.
* Configurations are loaded in this order: first the Fontconfig-upstream
configuration is loaded, then the NixOS-specific font directories are
set, the system-wide default configuration is loaded, and finally the
user configuration is loaded (if enabled).
* The NixOS options `fonts.fontconfig.defaultFonts.monospace`,
`fonts.fontconfig.defaultFonts.sansSerif` and
`fonts.fontconfig.defaultFonts.serif` are added to allow setting the
default system-wide font used for these generic faces. The defaults
are the appropriate faces from the DejaVu collection because of their
comprehensive Unicode coverage, clean rendering, and excellent
legibility.
* The NixOS option `fonts.fontconfig.antialias` can be used to disable
antialiasing (it is enabled by default).
* The options `fonts.fontconfig.subpixel.rgba` and
`fonts.fontconfig.subpixel.lcdfilter` control the system-wide default
settings for subpixel order and LCD filtering algorithm,
respectively.
* `fonts.fontconfig.hinting.enable` can be used to disable TrueType font
hinting (it is enabled by default).
`fonts.fontconfig.hinting.autohint` controls the FreeType autohinter.
`fonts.fontconfig.hinting.style` controls the hint style; it is "full"
by default.
* User configurations can be disabled system-wide by setting
`fonts.fontconfig.includeUserConf = false`. They are enabled by
default so users can set Fontconfig options in the desktop environment
of their choice.
Using pkgs.lib on the spine of module evaluation is problematic
because the pkgs argument depends on the result of module
evaluation. To prevent an infinite recursion, pkgs and some of the
modules are evaluated twice, which is inefficient. Using ‘with lib’
prevents this problem.
